Shumit Basu designs custom-made corsets under his label Underground
Aristocracy. Working in leather, brocade, silk, latex; the material is
pretty much your choice. Each corset is sized to fit you precisely— women
and men alike. Shumit has come up with several styles, at least one of
which will catch your eye.
Shumit is even willing to further customize his signature patterns to your
wishes. I wanted a square neckline, no problem. Buckles instead of ties?
No problem. Square instead of rounded tabs? No problem.
Working by hand, Shumit is able to make such changes that would be
otherwise impossible. And his prices are very reasonable--corsets start at
$150 and range to $400 for more complex designs and special fabrications.
Soon, the demand for Shumit's work will take off and ready-to-wear corsets
will become more widely available. Don't hesitate; he makes all sorts of other custom clothing and gear as
well.
