Union Square Park
Located between Broadway to the west, 14th street to the south, 4th Ave to
the east, and 17th Street to the North. Once the home to heroin deals and
junkies, USP is a yuppie heaven. But don't let that stop you. On Mondays,
Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, visit the Green market, the largest
organic produce market in the city. It is a treat to visit and people
watch, and you can also get great deals on veggies, flowers, fruit, jams,
wine, and baked goods. The park is a nice place to watch squirrels scamper
about, read a book, or enjoy a cup of coffee. Also: one of the best second
hand book stalls is located on the west side of the park. They also have
records, stills, and oodles of funky postcards.
