From: Neurodancr@aol.com Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 04:02:42 EDT Subject: Re-Introduction (long) To: nycgoth-l@necronomi.com Sorry about the delay in my re-introduction, here goes: My name is Ian Staer, I'm 23, Sagittarius. Life-long resident of the Jersey Shore, though I've taken extended leaves of absence to the Philadelphia/Main Line area now and again. 6'1", approximately 160 lbs. Blue eyes, short spiky dark-blonde hair. Two 10-ga. CBRs in my earlobes and a 14-ga. Industrial in my left ear. I am currently employed as a computer repair technician / office assistant / tech support guy / general getter-of-things-done. In the past, I have been employed as a web designer for several startup e-commerce ventures, and continue to do freelance webdesign work when I have the time. When I'm not working... I maintain Apoptygma Berzerk's USA Fanpage, "Non-Stop Violence", located at http://members.aol.com/neurodancr/apb/ . I am a musician. Lately I've been concentrating on songwriting using mainly electronic instrumentation (synthesizers, drum machines, etc) but I can also play guitar, bass, and drums. I'm busily working on writing and recording an EP for my main musical project, "e-motiv", which should be available by 2001 if all goes well. I am a DJ. I go by the name DJ Luminal, and I spin Hard Trance, EBM, and other assorted manifestations of hard electronic dance music. Along with CDs, I use turntables and spin from vinyl, a necessity brought on by the fact that my concentration of late has been geared more towards the Hard Trance (read: "rave") end of things than the EBM or "industrial" end of things. Doesn't seem to bother the crowds at the clubs and parties I've spun at though -- good hard dance music is good hard dance music, regardless of whatever label is applied to it. The obilgatory sampling of favorite bands/musical artists: Apoptygma Berzerk (natch!), VNV Nation, Covenant, Underworld, Cosmic Gate, Pants And Corset, Nostrum, Kai Tracid/Tracid Traxxx label, The Art Of Noise, Future Sound Of London, Front 242, Acid Queen, Empirion, Astral Projection, The Grid, Eco, E Nomine, Transa. I like "cyberpunk". I've read a lot of William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Neal Stephenson and enjoyed their stories immensely. Anyone who can recommend any other works in this vein, I'd love to hear from you. I also enjoy Anime and Manga-styled comics: favorite Anime include Ghost In The Shell, Battle Angel, Serial Experiments LAIN, Akira, and Ninja Scroll. Current comic infatuation is Pat Lee's gorgeous "Darkminds" series. Favorite movie: "Blade Runner", hands-down. I was very pleased with the recent on-list discussion of my favorite film :) I began my tenure in the "goth/industrial" scene in NYC. My first "goth" club was Limelight's "Communion" in 1994, followed by The Batcave and The Bank. Frequented Shadowplay and Exedor at Coney Island High back in the summer of '97 (about when i joined this list). Left the NYC scene later that year for points south (read: Philly), for personal and financial reasons. Took to the Philly scene very well, and I've become a regular attendee of Nocturne@Shampoo, where you can find me on the dancefloor for the better part of the night. I do, however, like to stay abreast of happenings and goings-on within the tri-state scene, so I'm still subbed to this list: you can catch me posting now and then, usually on topics of an industrial- or EBM- oriented slant. I can also be found on EFNet #altgothic during the day, using the nick "Luminal". *gasp* I think that about sums up this little tome of an intro... any other questions, feel free to email me. :) take care! -ian
