The date was inadvertently left off the email: it's Sept 13th. Now that I seem to have delurked, I should do the obligatory introductions. I've corresponded with a few of you privately or on other lists. I'm the Helcat, a transplanted Virginnygoth now residing in Philly. I cover the goth-industrial beat for the weekly _City Paper_ here, and I write dark fantasy/science fiction when I get the inclination to be creative. (Jayde, since you like Sonja Blue, I should introduce you to Vahnia. ;) ) I struggle with holding down day jobs, and visit New York occasionally, though more for my writing than for clubbing: the trains only go as far as Trenton. I do have family in Brooklyn, however, so at some point I'll cash in those chips and make a weekend of it. I'm a past close associate of Bella Morte; their bassist was my accidental roommate for many months. I dabble in songwriting myself but haven't pursued musical interests since a brief stint doing Cure covers and other non-gothy things with a college band. Writing has been the focus of my adult life: I have a novel in progress that's been dubbed "feministy goth" by one friend. It fits, well enough. I'm five years divorced but quite happy with my current beau, nearing thirty, and I have a seven-year-old son named Kieran. I also have a twelve-year-old black cat named Sable. I'm philosophically and spiritually a Buddhist, though I don't practice past the comfort of my living room. Musically I have the tastes of a critic; I like intelligent lyrics and creative music that strays from formulas and recitations. World music fits this most closely, but I'll confess to enjoying a good stomp session with the rivets. The rest of me is subject to change without notice.
